About Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

Humboldt-Universität was founded in 1810 by Wilhelm von Humboldt with the aim of creating an institution guaranteeing the sustainable coexistence of research and teaching. This ideal and model has become a global platform for modern universities from the 19th century onwards.

Located in the modern and dynamic yet historic and highly-cultivated heart of Berlin, the university has undergone many changes in the course of its history. Since Germany's reunification in 1990, Humboldt-Universität has carried out a radical restructuring program following Wilhelm von Humboldt's founding principles and established strong academic ties with leading universities worldwide.

Today, Humboldt-Universität is proud of its strong bond with partners in the United States. The university manages and initiates leading transatlantic research projects, interdisciplinary faculty and master programs as well as high-profil think tanks on scientific, social, political and environmental issues.
